khan el khalily bazar, dont pay more than 200 pounds. and if the seller tells you a price do the following exactly: appear shocked, say “what! i would pay (1/2 what he said) and still feel robbed”, then say “thanks anyway” and start moving away. he’ll then chase after you and offer (what he said first – 10%), then you show that you’re confused as if the damn thing is so ******** gorgeous but it’s way too expensive, then look like your thinking and then tell him to say a final price, no bargaining, no hastling, final thing so you can either buy the thing or leave. he’ll say something (probably 75% of his original offer) you take it down a little bit further and tell him that’s what you would pay. if he accepts well and good, if he doesnt then the last price he said is the real price of the costume, so when you know it go to any other shop and say that price immediately and insist on it. :-) man! i love egypt.

Well the best place to buy belly dance customs i Egypt is a market named “kan el khalili” It is a bazaar don’t go on Sundays as many shops close then. the average price would be 250 Egyptian pounds which is around 40 USD . you have to bargin and haggle with the shop people and don’t get intimidated buy the price they will give you …………don’t pay more than 250 Egyptian pounds…………show them that you know the price and if they refuse to give it to you leave they’ll call you again. Cheers

The ones in Khan El Khalily or other tourist shops are not the professional type.

Well I can recommend a place which is not Cheap but it is very clean and it is easy to go there by yourself without a need for an escort. the belly dancing costumes stores are located on the upper floors. take a grand tour in the place before you buy.

It is the City stars mall in Nasr City, you will see the biggest collection in one clean place and you can find colors, sizes, variety of prieces. the best ones priece range “150$-200$”. which is actually not much as it is all hand made.

Plus you can bargain. these costumes look very deceiving, you need to see it and touch the fabric yourself before you buy it. Buying staff in Egypt online is not recommended at all.

Good Luck, Send us Pictures :-)

Khan al Khalili and City Stars Mall are definately the best places to go but the stuff in Khan al Khalili is not as good of quality as the mall. If the costume is of very good quality and has a lot of decoration on it do not pay more than $150-$200 (US dollars)
If it’s poor quality don’t pay more than $50. I’ve bought a great many bedlah and I would only pay $150 or less for most of costumes even when they are really good quality(unless I absolutely love it then they might be able to get me up to the $200). I would direct you to Madame Abla but she died not too long ago and I don’t know if her family is carrying on the business or not. You do have to haggle quite a bit usually to get a good price.

everybody said khan el khalily which is right, but for the real thing at a decent rate go to mohamed ali street down town, near opera square.
